Recently, I caved and went to B&N to get two new books for a roadtrip I went on. One of the books I picked up was Tell Me What You Did by Carter Wilson! I finished it in two days and gave it a 4 star review!
Tell Me What You Did follows Poe Webb, an increasingly popular podcast host whose show centers around criminals anonymously confessing to their crimes for millions of listeners to judge. One particular guest is more excited to confess his crimes than any other. His crime, and his retelling of it, hits close to home for Poe…a little too close. You see, this particular guest is confessing to the murder of Poe’s own mother. But how could that be? Poe already took care of her mothers killer. Seven years ago.
I really enjoyed Wilson’s story telling. I can honestly say that this book freaked me out. It was all suspense and excitement, hitting all of the marks I love to see in a good thriller! I understood Poe as a character and I could empathize with how she handled the situation she was forced in to; empathy and understanding when it comes to reader-character “relationships” are two things I think make not only a good book but an excellent writer/storyteller.
My only issue, which probably doesn’t seem like a HUGE deal in hindsight, is that there were a few grammar issues that distracted me for a moment or two. I know I’m very far from a perfect writer and I am sure that you could find any number of mistakes within my writing but when I read, an error or two stops my flow and takes me out of the story for a minute. The issues I found were few and far between, but it still knocked this book down a little bit (I know I am being ridiculous, just bear with me please…).
Regardless of my ridiculously heavy focus on very minor details, I think the story as a whole was incredible and I absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants to start exploring the thriller genre! I am hoping to pick up more books by Wilson and dive deeper in to her writing; Tell Me What You Did was truly an excellent dip in to her books!
