I hate to say this, but I have had to DNF more books this year than I think I have ever had to. Not necessarily in the sense that I have read more “unlikable” or “bad” books this year than I have in years prior, but that I have learned it’s okay to stop doing something you’re not interested in (as long as it does not negatively impact your real life, of course).

I believe there is only one book I genuinely consider to be a bad book (let me know if you’re interesting in finding out which…). Other than that, I truly believe no book is bad. Some books are just not for some people, and that’s okay. Regardless, I have almost always felt the need to push through a book, especially if people have said they loved it in the end, because I like to keep my reading diverse.

I do not like to stick to one genre for many reasons. First, I like to explore new things. I think it’s foolish to not branch out of your comfort zone every once in awhile. I used to only read “real” books (not non-fiction, but books with things that could all happen in my real life) untiI I decided to start reading more fantasy. I have LOVED it. I never thought I would but fantasy has truly become my favorite genre. Second, there are so many books in the world and I want to read them all despite the fact that accomplishing such a feat is completely impossible and most definitely insane. Hence why my reading is typically so diverse: I want to experience every form of literature I possibly can.

I typically give a book about 100 pages before I put it down for a while and move on to something else. If I’m still totally and completely uninterested after 100 pages, I give myself grace to put it down and start something new!

This year, I have not finished:

A Little Life – Hanya Yanagihara

Powerless – Lauren Roberts

West With Giraffes – Lynda Rutledge

Breaking Dawn – Stephanie Meyer (I have actually read the entire Twilight series 8 times, but I didn’t finish Breaking Dawn this re-read because I absolutely despise Jacob’s POV…)

Wuthering Heights – Emily Brontë (I have read this before but it was for school so I felt like I should re-read it again and it was just not for me)

There is a strong possibility I will return to these books at a later date, but as I mentioned there are so many books in the world that I want to read and I do not want to hold myself back if I am not enjoying my current book!

Thank you for reading! Speak with you so soon 🙂
